Love of Jazz

Jazz, a great and highly underrated genre of music, not many people have been able to learn a true appreciation for jazz, but I have, jazz is the ultimate expressive form of music from smooth jazz, to fusion it is an amazing style of music with many artists painting pictures with their instruments, since the genres beginnings it has been the ultimate expression of emotion every piece a musical entity in itself. I recommend that you try listening to some of these jazz greats to get a feel for what I'm saying.

Artist I recommend: David Sanborn, Chicago, Miles Davis, Kenny G, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sun Ra, Wynton Marsalis, Steely Dan, Tower of Power, Spyro Gyra

Epic Metal

I really enjoy the epicness of Power Metal, if you do not know what power metal is allow me to explain, power metal is a subgenre of metal which uses elements of thrash metal and orchestra accompanied by fast guitars, and usually high-pitch vocals reminiscent of Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf, Dio) or Rob Halford (Judas Priest, Halford, 2wo) and usually incorprates lyrics about dragons, vikings, battles, Arthurian legend, Lord of the Rings and other things relating to high fantasy, I enjoy it because it lays out a landsacpe of epic adventure and allows me to use my imagination. Anyway here are some of the more popular power metal bands for you to listen to.

Artist I recommend: Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Edguy, Manowar, Kamelot, Primal Fear, Dio, Hammerfall

Band Names

One thing that always drives me crazy, is when I talk to someone about certain bands, primarily Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin and the british comedy troupe Monty Python and they say, "oh yeah I like his music" or "he's really funny" and then I have to explain that it's not a person it's a band, that drives me nuts, don't even get me started on the I've never seen/heard of Star Wars people they're even worse. Anyway here's some bands to check out.

Artist I recommend: The Highwaymen, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers, Kris Kristofferson, George Jones, Hank Williams, Hank Williams Jr, Kid Rock (Recent stuff)

Winter Music

In the winter I get in the mood to listen to certain music, especially folk, some good Simon & Garfunkel or Gordon Lightfoot makes me feel great during this dreary (for me anyway) time of year, I know what your thinking "But Dominique how is snow dreary?" well when you live in Michigan and it snows in the middle of May and doesn't always snow on Christmas, I'd say that's pretty dreary, not to mention the fact that it turns into slush. Anyway for now I've run out of things to rant about so heres some recommended listening.

Artist I recommend for today: Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter Paul and Mary, Donovan, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Joan Baez
